So I jumped straight on the hype train with this palette and I ordered it straight away which is something I never ever do (or have the money for lmao). I put up my first impressions and swatches post on the very day I got it because I was that excited, and now I’m back again about a month later with my final thoughts on this year’s most controversial palette – keep reading to find out what I ended up thinking of it!
I’m gonna start off by saying that I briefly did have some problems with this palette, and the fact that I was in a bit of a rut when it came to eyeshadow (wherein all my looks were briefly turning out horrible) didn’t really help. At some points I found the darker ones harder to blend and I was really scared to use them. However that all changed when I started to use the palette a bit more carefully.
These shadows are intensely pigmented, and the best way to use them is to pick up smaller amounts and blend and pack and blend and pack etc. If you go in with a massive amount straight away you might be in trouble, but if you’re quite careful and tap in lightly and tap/blow on your brush before you apply them you can end up with some stunning results.
So I’ve included my swatches of each row here; if you want a full arm swatch and a bit more detail then check out my original post first, as these will be my final opinions on them. This is the first row top to bottom: Cube, Dawn, Destiny, Adorn, All Star, Mercury and Axis. I have a similar opinion of Cube to the one I had initially – it’s not the most blinding and it’s a bit too light for the lid, but I did find that it looks lovely in the waterline. Also if you build it up it looks stunning in your inner corner. Dawn is a great crease shade and it builds really nicely, but I’d say that this shade has the most fallout (although this doesn’t really bother me as fallout is fallout and if you tap in lightly then it’s not a problem).
Destiny is one of the pack on and you’ll be fine shades and I really love it, especially combined with Electric. Adorn is still absolutely stunning and I have nothing new to say haha. All Star is gorgeous and using it along the lower lash line really pulls looks together. Mercury is really good for darkening the outer corners. Axis is stunning and it looks great along the lower lash line.
And this is the second row top to bottom: Roxy, Electric, Fudge, New Wave, Untamed, Edge and Rowdy. Roxy is another one with a wee bit of fallout, but again it’s not a huge deal, and it’s so vibrant and perfect for brightening the crease. Electric is my favourite shade from the palette as it’s so sparkly and beautiful and if you wet it it’s just oh my god. Fudge is not one of my favourites and I don’t really reach for it, but it is a really nice colour.
New Wave is a lovely vibrant orange colour that I love to put in the crease. Untamed is a great shade for the lower lash line, but I haven’t really reached for it for any other reason yet. Edge is a really cute mustard shade, which looks really cute contrasted against Roxy. Rowdy is one you really have to be careful with but it does really darken the outer corners and it works great to deepen up the lower lash line and the black to purple colour ratio of it is perfect imo.
So that was my round up of the Subculture palette! My final thoughts are that I love it a lot and it’s definitely my favourite palette rn. You can create some absolutely stunning and unique looks with it. The colour selection is something I didn’t know I needed until I got it, and I just think that it’s so versatile for me and it has never ending possibilities. The day I get bored of this palette will probably never come, and although it took a bit of learning to get to grips with it, I’m glad I gave it a shot!
I’m glad you ended up really liking it. I’m scared of the learning curve with this palette. I might pick it up at some point because I like the colors. Initially, I wasn’t sure about the colors but I starting changing my mind when I saw some pretty looks created. http://www.mrsqbeauty.com

I was so tempted to buy this but I never ended up getting it because everyone’s reviews were so controversial. I’m glad you liked it! X

Some of the colors here are pretty but I wouldn’t wear the blues. I have the ABH Master Palette by Mario which was limited edition but I liked that so much better.

I’m also a bit scared of the blues but it does push you outside your comfort zone as a palette which is cool. The master palette looked so nice but I wasn’t really into the colour selection I don’t think

I love how pigmented the shades are! And I was confused as to why everyone was giving it such a bad review, I thought “they’re definitely missing something”. I decided to watch Wayne Goss’s video and his made more sense than anyone else’s lol. Everyone was complaining that there was too much fallout and the first thing he said was that he believed this palette was a pure pigment press. I was like “whoa, this guy really knows his makeup”. He was right though, that people dip into their palettes so dramatically, like no, a little goes a long way. This is a great palette though, now knowing what it truly is and how to use it.

Legit like did you see that one video where someone violently swirled their brush around in one of the shades until they hit pan and was like “I hit pan!?!?”? I was like well ofc you did bc you deliberately hit pan😂😅

This is the first good review I’ve read about it! I’m in two minds about buying it now because the colours look really good and if, like you said, it’s just a matter of gradual application then I don’t really see the problem. I would however, like to see pictures of looks you can make with this palette so I know how it appears on the eye!

I showed a look in my original subculture post and a look in the first episode of my basic bitch tries series a little way back on my blog if that helps? But in my opinion it’s worth it bc I use it everyday haha
